Design Guidelines
A short brief on preparing your artwork.
A few notes on file formats, fonts and the physical limits of engraving on glass — so we can hit the ground running with your commission.
Accepted file formats
- —Vector preferred: SVG, AI, EPS, PDF
- —Raster accepted: PNG or JPG at 300 dpi minimum
- —Logos in single colour translate best — we'll convert greyscale or full colour into engraving line work
Image quality
- —Photographs cannot be engraved directly — they are interpreted into line drawings by hand
- —Detail finer than 0.5 mm is difficult to read on glass; we'll simplify where needed
- —Send the highest resolution version of any reference you have
Font choices
- —Serif and classic script fonts engrave beautifully
- —Very thin geometric sans-serifs may need a slight thickening
- —Tell us if you have a specific font, or let us recommend one to suit the piece
Engraving limitations
- —Curved surfaces affect maximum design width
- —Coloured and textured glass require approval samples — get in touch before ordering blanks
- —Some imported glassware has internal stresses that may crack during engraving — we'll advise
Still unsure?
Send us what you have.
Honestly, the easiest thing is to email us the artwork you've got. We'll let you know whether it will engrave well as-is, whether we'd recommend redrawing it, and what the proof will look like.
